Once all the trialling is done, hopefully the finished product will help teachers to do something that I always found hard: systematically teach problem-solving skills to children. KS1 Problem Solving is a series of graded books that helps children to sharpen their mathematical skills by applying their knowledge to a range of 'real-life' situations, such as shopping and telling the time.For the month of March, each day we will publish some reasoning and problem solving questions for use with your classes.

KS1 Problem Solving Book 1 is suitable for children moving from the Early Years Foundation Stage to KS1 and those already in KS1.

These booklets each contain over 40 reasoning and problem solving questions suitable for KS1, KS2 and KS3 classes.

The fourth article builds on the third by discussing what we mean by problem-solving skills and how NRICH can help children develop these skills.

Mathematics Year 1: (1N2a) Count, read and write numbers to 100 in numerals; count in multiples of twos, fives and tens.
