The Knight’s Tale presents ideal characters for a story of courtly love.

Chaucer draws on pastoral and divine imagery to present Emelye as the perfectly feminine love object, comparing her beauty to fresh May flowers and her singing to that of heavenly angels.

According to this conception of love, romance is an ennobling force that can raise the male lover—usually a knight—to heights of bravery in the service of his lady.

The beloved, in turn, is the epitome of feminine perfection and often difficult, if not impossible, to attain as a romantic partner.

Five of Chaucer’s colourful and entertaining tales of love, infidelity, intrigue, courtship and death are brought vividly to life as you make your journey through the recreated medieval scenes and listen to the audio guide.

When you reach Canterbury, you will be met by a second costumed guide who will take you to your ultimate destination – the shrine of St Thomas Becket.

In the story, it states that each person on the journey was to tell two tales on the way to Canterbury, and two on the way back. The following essay questions encompass a variety of different essay types to provide a basis for any essay needed in school.
